Living in Hawaii for 2 years I was completely spoiled with the best acai bowls and fresh tropical fruits. I am completely obsessed now and have a smoothie bowl almost every day. Some people think it might be strange to eat a smoothie with a spoon, but this is more like eating ice cream! The key is to use frozen bananas, they are a game changer. Acai is a berry from South America that is very rich in antioxidants, fiber, and heart-healthy fats. You can find frozen acai packets at Whole Foods or Trader Joes.  These are also great little treats on a hot summer day!

 

Recipe

smoothie base:

  • 2-3 frozen bananas
  • 1 packet of frozen acai
  • nut milk
  • 1 tbsp maca powder (optional)

Toppings:

  • Hemp seeds
  • Coconut flakes
  • Kiwi
  • Almond butter

 

 

Directions

1. Add all smoothie ingredients to a high speed blender. Try to use as little nut milk as possible (you can always add more). Blend until creamy and smooth like ice cream. This will take a little patience, you will have to stop the blender several times and mix it up with a spatula.

2. Once you have gotten your ice cream-like consistency, its all ready! Poor into a bowl and top with all your toppings, then devour with pure joy.
